Happy New Year!

Here are the top 10 sellers and recommended titles for 2013

10. Chippy Chipmunk Parties in the Garden and Chippy Chipmunk Babies in the Garden by Kathy M. Miller.

Kathy M. Miller and Chippy came to visit in September! We had a great time learning about Chippy, his family, and other Pennsylvania wildlife. These award winning books have been area favorites for years!

9. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

The first of the Caster Chronicles, this gothic teen fantasy of witches in the Deep South continues to gain fans!

8. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

The great hook of this delightfully creepy book is the use of vintage photographs to illustrate the story. A collector of odd photos, Riggs builds his tale around images that appear to be classic photo tricks, but in the story they are actually evidence of children who are "peculiar". These children have unusual abilities and must hide from the monsters who want to destroy them. The sequel, Hollow City, is arriving on January 14th!

7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

This best-selling novel for young readers has come to the big screen this year! Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. Told from the odd point of view of Death himself.

6. Divergent by Veronica Roth.

This hot teen dystopia will be a movie in March. We've had some readers say they liked it even more than the Hunger Games!

5. I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen.

Number 2 on the list for 2012, this brilliantly subversive little tale of a bear's search for his beloved hat still has people of all ages reading it to each other at Firefly. Be sure to check out the Caldecott-winning sequel, This Is Not My Hat!

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck by Jeff Kinney.

The eighth installment of the luckless Greg Heffley continues the favorite middle-school series!

3. The Fault in our Stars by John Green.

The king of teen reads continues his reign. His latest is due as a movie in 2014!

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

2. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram.

This adorable modern classic has become a go-to book for baby showers and holidays!

1. Building Our House and Big Snow by Jonathan Bean.

We had two incredibly popular events with Jonathan Bean and both books are huge hits, both locally and nationwide! Building Our House was inspired by Jonathan's parents who built their own home in Fleetwood. It was chosen as a New York Times Notable Book for 2013. Big Snow takes place here in Kutztown and is a beautiful, funny, light-hearted Winter's tale of a small boy who can't wait to see the snow! We hope to see Jonathan again and host more children's author events in 2014!
