This is a two-volume set of the fifth edition of a classic economic book. This is the final edition that Adam Smith personally edited. Previous owner marks and signatures on the first text block page include James Burrill Angell (January 7, 1829 to April 1, 1916) best known as the longest-serving president of the University of Michigan (1871to 1909). Inscribed to James Burrill Angell by his son, Alexis Caswell Angell dated December 1854. There is also a stamp "James A. Burrill 1830". These marks are the same on both volumes. Fully Re-bound (unknown date) with red leather, black leather title and volume pieces with gilt. Leather cover is clean and intact with very slight scuffs and very slight bumped corners. Endpapers fully intact. Text block binding is tight. Pages are very slightly tanned particularly the first and last pages. Inside pages have very slight rippling, very light and sporatic foxing otherwise very clean and intact. Excellent overall condition, clearly a professional rebinding of the original text block.
