Selling Us Books, Games and Puzzles
TRADE-IN DROP-OFFS ARE NOW BY APPOINTMENT
Effective July 6, 2026

We accept books, games, and puzzles for trade by scheduled drop-off appointment only. We are no longer maintaining a waiting list or alternating between open intake periods and temporary quarterly hiatuses.
Appointments help limit the amount of material waiting to be processed and keep our drop-off area manageable. Please contact the store to schedule an appointment before bringing in items. We may not be able to accept unscheduled drop-offs.
Drop-off appointments are available beginning one hour after opening and ending two hours before closing. Appointments may be scheduled up to 30 days in advance. Please arrive during your scheduled drop-off window. If you are unable to make your appointment or expect to be delayed, contact us to reschedule. An appointment reserves a time to bring in your material; it does not mean your trade will be evaluated while you wait. We will ask you to leave your items and will contact you when we have finished reviewing them.
Processing can take up to one week, depending on volume. Large batches may take longer. We will contact you when your trade is complete.
We offer store credit, with no expiration date, for items that we are able to use in our store. The trade offer is a percentage of our Firefly store price, and may vary depending on condition, age, demand, and subject matter. We offer 20-25% for most items, and up to 40% for items that are popular and/or harder for us to acquire. Trade credit cannot be used on consignment items, sale or discounted items, or gift cards.
Your store credit can be used for 100% of the price of USED items and 25% toward the price of NEW items.
We will consider taking your items for cash, but we are FAR more selective about the types of items we will offer cash for. The cash offered for those items will be 1/2 of what the trade value would be.
If you just want your books and games out of the way, we can just take everything as a donation. You do not need an appointment for donation. Anything we can't use we will donate to local libraries or charity book drives for their sales, or we will recycle anything that is completely unusable. Please take note of the list of things we can NEVER use below.
However, if you will want the items we cannot use back, please plan to return within 2 weeks after we call you. Any materials that are left after that time will be considered abandoned and added to our donations or recycled.
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking for new material in all sections of the store, but are especially interested in:
- Eastern & World Religions
- Esoteric and Occult
- Crafts
- Art and Photography
- Graphic Novels and comic collected volumes, Children's Graphic Novels
- English-language Manga (Japanese, Korean and Chinese are also good)
- Role Playing Games and source books (D&D, Pathfinder, D20, any other system)
- Science, Math and Engineering
- Trains and Railroads
- Science Fiction and Fantasy
- Large Print Fiction and Non-Fiction titles
- Puzzles that are COMPLETE and in their original boxes without holes. Easiest if the peices are packed in ziplock bags.
- Games (Board, Card, War Games, etc.) that are complete, with all of the essential peices (we can replace dice). They need to be in playable condition.
Important Tips For Trade-Ins
- We are looking for desirable books for all sections of our store. Whatever you have, pack flat in appropriate containers.
- Please consider using boxes or reusable shopping bags with handles for your materials. Large boxes can be dangerous to move and carry.
- We strongly recommend using smaller office boxes or similar-sized moving or liquor boxes.
- Please don't use garbage or trash bags as it is likely your items will get damaged and it will be difficult for us to use them!
- Large plastic tubs, laundry baskets, or other non-cardboard containers are harder for us to manage in a small space. Please consider using smaller cardboard boxes.
- Overall condition is an important consideration for us, but bring us what you have - there are some items we take regardless.
- We cannot not accept any books or games that have smoke, tobacco, chemical or mildew smell, have water damage or mold, or show signs of insect damage or infestation.
Other items we cannot use (please don't bring these, even to donate):
- Items with obsolete or out-of-date information
- Magazines - including National Geographic (some academic magazines may be useful)
- Encyclopedias (any kind, any year)
- Reader's Digest Condensed Books
- Puzzles with missing pieces
- Board games with missing parts (other than something basic like standard dice)
Estate or Liquidation Sales
If you need to make arrangements for a large collection, please contact us by email or 484.648.2712 to make an appointment. We can work directly with the seller or through their representatives to move any volume. We occasionally work in tandem with other dealers.
If you have a collection that you need us to purchase on site rather than bring it to the store, please contact us, so we can discuss the best approach to move your material. We may not be able to accommodate requests for on-site visits.
I have a list of books to sell. Can you give me a quote for which books you want and how much you'll pay for them?
We have had a long-standing policy of not doing quotes over the phone or by email. We do have customers that send us lists with the expectation we will pick and choose which ones we want and make an offer at that time. Due to the number of issues that such a process creates, we have to be hard and firm that we need to see in person all items the customer wants us to evaluate, and make an offer only AFTER we have selected the items we know we can use in the store.
We realize that the prospect of packing everything and bringing them to us, having to wait, and if there are any returns, having to drive back to pick them up will seem daunting or inconvenient. We assure our customers that our intent is to make sure that everyone receives a careful and accurate evaluation of their books so they get good value in return.
There have been occasions where a collection is generally in good enough overall condition and interest that we can quickly generate a per-box offer and just take everything. Certainly this is the most expedient approach but far less accurate. It is essentially a guesstimate approach based on what percentage of the collection we think we can actually use.
