Employment

We are always on the lookout for passionate, intelligent, focused, and creative people to join our team. You can send us a resume with a cover letter at any time, but listed below are our current opportunities.

We are looking for the right fit for the store - energetic, happy to engage with customers, with a broad range of interests. The ideal candidate should be fairly meticulous and detail-oriented but not so focused that they miss opportunities to connect with customers. While not looking specifically for salespeople, selling books and games is important!

Firefly is an independently-owned business, with a strong ethos for team-development and creating a supportive and collaborative work environment. The owners have been working in books for well over 15 years, and were inspired to create the bookstore they always wanted to work in. The owners have a clear vision for the overall direction of the store and try to provide appropriate direction and guidance for their Associates. Many of our employees have been with us for years, and have found a place they look forward to being at every week.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and a Safe Space advocate. The 100+ year-old building is not currently Handicap Accessible although most 1st floor interior areas are ADA-compliant (bathroom, break room, work areas and aisles).

Please take note:

  • The positions listed below are for the most part not sit-down jobs; we are often on our feet moving throughout the store.
  • We are often carrying boxes and stacks of books which can be heavy, as well as climbing up steps and ladders to reach the top shelves.
  • Some tasks do require computer work and some computer experience will be helpful to use our software, namely database use and point-of-sale systems.
  • Keeping a book store running requires a large range of skills and knowledge. There are many other ongoing tasks that a strong candidate might be suited for and can be trained to grow into a larger role in the company.

Interested candidates should submit a resume or CV, along with a brief introductory note. Please read job descriptions carefully for details of what we are looking for in a future employee. We will continue to contact and interview qualified candidates until we find the right fit for the position. This is an open-ended process that has no particular end date, but generally we are trying to find someone to start before the next holiday season.
